The Centennial Conference has endorsed a return to play for spring sports — baseball, golf, lacrosse, softball, tennis and track & field — with conference member institutions making individual decisions concerning their participation in competition. Muhlenberg's spring sports teams began taking part in the College's Return to Sport protocols on February 8 with a goal of resuming competition toward the end of March if conditions allow. Fall and winter student-athletes have also been practicing under the protocols while the College explores possibilities for a limited number of contests this spring.
Muhlenberg has been working with conference partners and an outside firm to create shared protocols and guidelines that each institution will adhere to in order to facilitate competition. The Centennial decision expands the input to this process and helps ensure that the health and safety of our student-athletes and coaches remains our primary focus. Muhlenberg looks forward to working with those conference members who are able to engage in competition.
"Our student-athletes have been exemplary in their work habits and compliance with campus Covid guidelines," said Lynn Tubman, director of athletics. "The Centennial Conference's decision opens up additional possibilities, including the opportunity for conference championships. I am so happy that our coaches and athletes will be rewarded with the possibility of competition this spring."
The Conference plans to release a modified schedule and championship format at a later date.
