After winning its third straight Centennial Conference championship, Muhlenberg placed 12 players on the
All-CC football team.
The Mules also came away with two of the major awards, as
Michael Hnatkowsky repeated as offensive player of the year and
Nate Milne and his staff repeated as coach of the year.
Hnatkowsky became the fourth player in CC history, and the first Mule, to won offensive player of the year in back-to-back seasons. He leads the CC in total touchdowns with 40, 11 more than the next-closest player. Hnatkowsky also leads the CC in completion percentage (.725) and efficiency rating (180.5), ranking in the top 10 in Division III in both categories.
Hnatkowsky will complete his career as the most decorated passer in conference history, as he already holds the career records in yards (11,806), touchdown passes (135), completions (905) and 200-yard passing games (38), with the 2021 NCAA Tournament still upcoming. His 135 career passing touchdowns are currently tied for sixth place on the all-time Division III list.Â
Although Hnatkowsky was a third-time All-CC honoree (first team twice and second team once), eight of the other 11 Mules on the team made the all-star squad for the first time. That was one of the factors in Milne and his staff (
Kory David,
Trey Brown,
Ryan Curtiss,
Jadin Davis,
Jeremy Estremera,
Eric Keiner,
Brett Sawyer,
Maurice Stallings and
Nick Uliana) earning their honor. Despite coming into the season with inexperience at several positions - including both the offensive and defensive lines, which did not return a single starter - Muhlenberg went 9-1 and posted wins against two CC teams that were nationally ranked at the time of the game (Johns Hopkins and Susquehanna).
Milne has a 33-4 record in his three seasons as head coach and has earned coach of the year in all three.
Joining Hnatkowsky on the first team were senior wide receiver
Michael Feaster, sophomore offensive tackle
Zach Greenberg, senior defensive end
Quentin Ogren, senior linebakcer
Spencer Kirin and senior cornerback
John Washington, who also earned second-team honors as a kick returner.Â
Sophomore kicker
Nick Stannard, senior linebacker
Joshua Barnett, sophomore defensive lineman
Keshon Davila and senior cornerback
Nick Sirico all made the second team, while senior offensive guard
Keith Berberich and senior wide receiver
Mitch Daniel earned honorable mention.
Feaster leads the CC with his school-record 81 receptions. One of two CC players with more than 1,000 receiving yards, he also is second in the CC with 10 receiving touchdowns. Feaster is the third member of his family named to the All-CC first team, following older brothers John Feaster (2014-16) and Frankie Feaster (2018-19).
Greenberg was the one constant on an offensive line that went through several different combinations during the season. The line allowed only 14 sacks and paved the way for the Mules to rush for 293 yards in the regular-season finale against Moravian. Greenberg is the first Mule offensive lineman to earn All-CC first team honors as a sophomore since 2014.
Ogren leads the Mules and is 10th in the CC with 10½ tackles for loss, including four sacks. He has also recorded an interception in his first year as a starter on a Muhlenberg defense that allows only 13.3 points and 79.4 rushing yards per game.
Kirin, who earned honorable mention in 2019, is the Mules' leading tackler with 75 stops (tied for fourth in the CC). He has blocked four kicks, including punts that were returned for key touchdowns in wins against Johns Hopkins and Franklin & Marshall.
Washington is the first Muhlenberg player named to the All-CC team both on defense and special teams since 2011. A first-team All-CC cornerback for the second straight season, he has scored three touchdowns, two on interception returns and one on a kickoff return. Washington is third on the Mules with 39 total tackles and leads the CC with a 36.1-yard average on kickoff returns.
Stannard has gone 48-of-52 on PATs and 6-of-7 on field goals in his first collegiate football season. He is second in the CC in points scored by kicking.
Barnett is second on Mules with 61 tackles, including 4½ for losses. A two-year starter, he has career totals of 155 tackles and 15 tackles for loss.
Davila was one of three Muhlenberg sophomores honored after their first collegiate season. He has started every game at defensive end, recording 5½ tackles for loss.
Sirico moved up to the second team after earning honorable mention in 2019. The team leader in pass breakups (7, tied for fifth in the CC), he has 19 tackles and a pair of interceptions.
Berberich entered the starting lineup for the first time in his career midway through the season, and in his five starts the Mules are averaging 42.2 points per game.Â
Daniel is second on the Mules in receptions (55, fifth in the CC), receiving yards (746, fifth) and receiving touchdowns (9, third) and has 110 career receptions just two seasons of playing.
Muhlenberg, ranked 13th by the
American Football Coaches Association and 15th by
D3football.com, earned the CC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament and will open with a home game against Framingham State on Saturday, November 20, at noon.
