The Muhlenberg wrestling team sent six wrestlers to the podium and three to Iowa.

Seniors Austin Sherman (149) and Jimmy Fratantoni (184) and sophomore Luca Colestock (197) all earned berths in the NCAA Championships by finishing in the top three at the NCAA Mideast Regional. The national meet is scheduled for March 13-14 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Mules had not qualified any wrestlers for the NCAA Championships since 2009 and hadn't qualified more than two since 2007.

Sherman started the day in the consolation semifinals and won both of his bouts to place third. In the consolation final, he scored a 6-4 decision against the same wrestler who had beaten him the previous day. That not only got him to nationals, but it also was the 100th win of his career. Sherman is only the second wrestler in Muhlenberg history to reach the century mark in wins.

Fratantoni dropped a tough 1-0 decision against a Merchant Marine wrestler in the semis but came back nicely, posting comeback decisions of 9-5 and 4-2 in his two consolation bouts to earn his trip to Iowa.

Colestock opened the day with a hard-fought 10-9 decision to advance to the championship final and automatically ensure himself a spot in the national field. He forfeited the final.

The Mules came close to qualifying a fourth wrestler, but senior Dylan Schwartz lost a heartbreaking 6-4 overtime decision in the 165 consolation final.
