Postcards from Abroad begins in Europe to visit with junior Madeline Mullett of the Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team, an economics major studying in Maastricht, Netherlands, this semester.
What classes are you taking while abroad?
I am currently taking a Business and Politics class and a class taught by a Muhlenberg professor. I love the Muhlenberg class, called Cultural Dimensions, because it is all about the different aspects of culture and certain differences that I had not noticed before.
Have you been able to travel at all during your time abroad? Are there any places you look forward to seeing that you haven't gotten to yet?
So far I have traveled from Maastricht to places including Berlin, Cologne, Amsterdam and Belgium. I am looking forward to seeing Dublin, Budapest, Munich, Rome/Florence, London and Norway to see the Northern Lights.
What has been your favorite part about being abroad?
I have loved meeting new people, especially those from other parts of the country and the world. I have made lots of friends from California and European countries.
Have you had any time to practice your sport while you have been abroad?
I have a membership at a local gym and have been going regularly to keep up with fitness in order to stay in shape for lacrosse.
What do you miss most about Muhlenberg?
So far, I really miss the people. Muhlenberg is such a tight-knit community of good humans and I miss the atmosphere of such a small school. Maastricht University is amazing, but it is much bigger and more daunting than Muhlenberg College.
Why did you want to go abroad?
I love to explore and studying abroad is the perfect opportunity to see a bunch of places for a lot less money, especially in Europe. The opportunities are endless here and I 100% recommend studying abroad for anyone who is able.
Any messages for your teammates back home?
I miss you all! I hope fall ball is going fabulously and the team is enjoying every minute. I cannot wait to see you all!
