Muhlenberg junior
Jordy Bonvini was named
Division III offensive player of the week by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association.
Bonvini, the first member of the Mule program ever to earn the national honor, scored 10 goals in a pair of Mule wins, including an 8-7 upset of top-ranked Gettysburg. She tied a career high with six goals to go along with 10 draw controls in a 20-6 win against Drew and added four of the her team's eight goals against the Bullets.
The honor was announced last night on the broadcast of "Fast Break: IWLCA College Lacrosse Weekly" on
Lax Sports Network (subscription required).Â
Bonvini, also named
Centennial Conference player of the week, scored a career-high seven goals last night in a 20-10 win at Haverford. She leads Muhlenberg with 34 goals, including 14 in three CC games. As of Tuesday, Bonvini was tied for ninth in Division III in draw controls per game, and she improved her average by tying a career high with 13 draw controls at Haverford.
The upset of Gettysburg vaulted the Mules into the IWLCA national rankings for the first time ever, at No. 20, and last night's win was the team's school-record eighth in a row. Combined with Gettysburg's defeat of the new top-ranked team, Franklin & Marshall, it left Muhlenberg in a tie with Dickinson for first place in the CC heading into Saturday's home game against Washington.
Bonvini is the second Muhlenberg athlete this year to be named national athlete of the week in her sport. In September,
field hockey player Rachel Strow was honored. Â
