Muhlenberg sophomore tight end
Ryan Curtiss was named to the
D3football.com All-America third team.
Curtiss is the 12th different Mule named to the elite squad since D3football.com began selecting an All-America team in 1999. Muhlenberg has placed at least one player on the All-America team in six of the last eight years, and three of those selections have been tight ends.Â
Three different Mule tight ends have earned All-America honors since 1999; out of more than 240 teams in Division III, only one (Ithaca) has had more tight ends recognized.
Curtiss, the lone Centennial Conference player named to the All-America team, made a big impact in his first season as a Mule, catching 39 passes for 509 yards and six touchdowns. His six TD catches tied for seventh in Division III among players listed as tight ends.
Curtiss, who tied a CC record for tight ends with 11 receptions vs. Johns Hopkins, also was named to the All-CC first team, the All-South Region first team and the All-ECAC first team. He was one of only seven sophomores honored on the D3football.com All-America first, second and third teams.
Muhlenberg finished the season with an 8-3 record, winning the ECAC Asa S. Bushnell Bowl with aÂ
32-6 defeat of Carnegie Mellon. It was the eighth straight winning season for the Mules, who are one of just 12 teams in Division III to have won at least eight games each of the last six years.Â
