Volleyball One Win Shy of Tying Record

The Muhlenberg volleyball team extended its winning streak to 12 matches by sweeping Centennial Conference foe Bryn Mawr.

The Mules (18-2, 3-0 CC), who earlier in the day received votes in the latest AVCA Division III poll, are now one win shy of tying the school record for consecutive victories set in 2014, with a match against nationally ranked Johns Hopkins next up on Saturday. Entering the night, Hopkins also has a double-digit win streak (13), defeating Dickinson on Wednesday. Muhlenberg and Johns Hopkins are two of 13 Division III schools to currently have a win streak of at least 10 matches.

Against the Owls (1-13, 0-5 CC), sophomore Maggie Enestvedt led the Mules with 13 kills on 17 attacks to go with three blocks. Sophomore Gabrielle Neuman finished with 21 assists, four kills and a career-high nine aces. Freshman Rebecca Shear led the team with eight digs, and junior Erica Schultz also finished with five kills on eight attacks.

Muhlenberg jumped out to early advantages in each of the three sets. Up 13-6 in the first stanza, Neuman (pictured above) spiked one of her four kills to start an 11-0 run for the Mules. Junior Kelly Tornetta made one of her three kills to put Muhlenberg up 24-6. Bryn Mawr won the next six points to cut the deficit, but Enestvedt finished the set at 25-12 with a kill.

Two of Tornetta's three aces followed by a block from sophomores Laura Boll and Tara Register helped the Mules stake out a 11-1 advantage in the second set, which ended with Muhlenberg winning 25-10.

The Mules jumped in front 6-0 in the third stanza, with freshman Alycia Long registering one of her two kills and assisting on a block with Enestvedt. Kills by Long and Enestvedt were Muhlenberg's final two points in a 25-12 set victory.
