The Muhlenberg field hockey team is preparing for its upcoming season by spending a week in Argentina. Seniors Taylor Smith and Claudia Theriault check in from the first part of the trip:
La Boca
¡Hola!
After 15 hours of travel, the Muhlenberg field hockey team arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Monday afternoon! Following the flight, we took a bus to our hotel with a brief tour of the city with our tour guide, Gerry. For dinner, we went to a local barbecue restaurant featuring Argentina's main dish, Argentine steak. It was a great atmosphere for all of us to catch up with each other after the summer since we all slept on the plane ride. It was a fun first night being welcomed into the Argentinian culture!
On Tuesday, we woke and began our day with a typical Argentine breakfast at the hotel, including fresh fruit and local pastries. We then got on board a shuttle to begin our tour of the city with Gerry and another guide, starting in northern Buenos Aires and ending in the south.
We made several stops along the way, including La Recoleta cemetery for famous and wealthy Argentinians, but the team's favorite stop was La Boca. La Boca is a part of Buenos Aires that is filled with colorful homes and unique shops. We all enjoyed exploring the different shops and interacting with the locals.
For lunch, we split into groups and headed to different restaurants around our hotel. We were able to have some time to rest after lunch
La Recoleta. Eva Perón is among the notables interred.
before we had to be ready for our first field hockey game against Club Newman. We were all so excited to be back on the field playing together! We had a blast playing against Club Newman, and it was an experience we will never forget.
After the game, the players from Club Newman invited us to a dinner they had prepared. This gave us time to get to know the players and learn more about the field hockey in Argentina! We were learning each other's languages, singing songs and having fun bonding. It was the best part of the trip by far. It was great to have a lot of time to interact with people rather than just touring and sightseeing.
So far, we have had a great time in Buenos Aires and are looking forward to our next seven days here!
