Box ScoreThe Muhlenberg women's basketball team led from start to finish and defeated SUNY Cortland, 74-49, to win its fourth Scotty Wood Tournament championship in the last six years.
Sophomore
Brandi Vallely was named tournament MVP after flirting with her third straight double-double. She finished with a career-high 16 points to go along with nine assists, seven rebounds and four steals, setting a record with 21 assists in two tournament games.
Senior
Christina Santone also broke a tournament record with six blocked shots in a game. She added 10 points and 12 rebounds against the Red Dragons (1-1) to earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
The Mules (3-0) won their two tournament games by a total of 57 points, outscoring their opponents in all eight quarters. Muhlenberg shot 45.9 percent from the field while holding its two opponents to 29.0-percent accuracy.
Behind two three-pointers by sophomore
Rachel Plotke, the Mules jumped out to a 10-2 lead against a Cortland team that won 21 games last year. They led by eight at the end of the quarter and upped their margin to 23 points before halftime.
Sophomore
Christina Manning tied Vallely for the team high with 16 points. Plotke finished with 14 points, three assists and three steals, while junior
Maggie Zerbe and sophomore
Chelsea Gary added eight points apiece.
