The Muhlenberg men's soccer team broke into the scoring column but not the win column, dropping a 2-1 decision at Lehigh Valley rival DeSales.
The Mules fell into an early 1-0 deficit when the Bulldogs scored off a long goalie punt in the 11th minute.
The tying goal, midway through the second half, capped a sequence that started when junior
Saleem Diakite drew a foul outside the box. The ball pinged around in the box on the ensuing free kick, with Muhlenberg taking two shots that were blocked before sophomore
Brady Sutton collected a rebound and fired a shot into the back of the net for his first career goal.
Muhlenberg nearly took the lead two minutes later when grad student
Lorenzo Vargas-Clarke took a long throwin that was parried over the crossbar by the goalie at the last second.
Two minutes later, DeSales scored what would prove to be the winning goal.
The Mules played without three injured starters and fielded a young lineup that included a freshman goalie and two freshman backs, including
Logan Mesics (pictured above).
