The Muhlenberg men's soccer team scored once in each half en route to earning its first win of the season, 2-1 against a strong Neumann team.
Junior
Thomas Shreiber, making his first start of the season, opened the scoring in the 12th minute by converting a cross from the corner by sophomore
Daniel Ariza.
The Knights, who came in with a 17-match regular-season unbeaten streak against Division III opponents, knotted the score by heading in a corner kick midway through the first half.
Muhlenberg (1-3) took its second lead with 28:01 to play when junior
Luke Blenis headed in a long throw from grad student
Lorenzo Vargas-Clarke for his first career goal.
The defense - which for a portion of the second half included three freshman backs playing in front a freshman goalie - made the advantage stand up, allowing no shots on goal the rest of the game.
Neumann (3-1-1), an NCAA Tournament team each of the last three years, already has two good results against Centennial Conference opponents this season, a win against Swarthmore and a draw against Washington College.
Vargas-Clarke
(pictured above) also assisted on Shreiber's goal, recording his first two career points for the Mules.
