The Muhlenberg women's soccer team battled throughout, but ultimately fell 1-0 to the visiting Wilkes Lady Colonels on Wednesday evening.
The Mules entered the contest without the services of five players who have started a combined 26 games this season but still generated a couple of quality scoring chances. Their two best chances came in quick succession midway through the first half. The first was generated in part by
Jaidyn Falcone, who sent a beautiful cross over to a streaking
Pia DiGregorio at midfield. The pass led DiGregorio behind the Wilkes defenders, where she had a brief 1-on-1 with the goalie that the netminder snuffed out.
Two minutes later, Falcone would find herself in a similar position after a Wilkes miscue. Falcone dribbled from the women's lacrosse restraining line to the edge of the box, where she fired a shot past the goaltender and into the crossbar.
With about 15 minutes remaining and following a throw in deep inside the Muhlenberg end, Wilkes broke the tie with a goal that slipped just inside the right post.
