Andrea Romero-Agosto and
Olivia Bruno (
pictured) both put together strong outings as the Muhlenberg Mules fell 3-2 to the Drew Rangers in a tight match throughout.
Romero-Agosto was excellent at the net all evening, finishing with a team-high 14 kills on a .387 hitting percentage. The sophomore utilized a combination of ferocious strikes and well-placed taps to outwit the opposition, sometimes firing a seed past a Ranger or gently tapping a well-placed ball in the frontcourt. Romero-Agosto also stood out defensively, leading the Mules with three total blocks.
Bruno, her teammate in the middle, had a similarly effective evening, totaling nine kills on a .412 hitting percentage. The junior also added two total blocks, part of a season-high seven total blocks for Muhlenberg as a team.
After a slow start in set one, the Mules showed signs of life near the end of that initial bout, turning an eight-point deficit into a two-point deficit before its conclusion. They carried that momentum into the second game, a back-and-forth contest, and managed to pull out a 25-21 victory to level the score at 1. The beginning of set three was all Muhlenberg, as the beginning of set one was for Drew. Again, an eight-point advantage was cut to two near the set's end, but the hosts managed to hang on for the win.
The visitors carried their newfound momentum into the fourth set and led much of the way to push the match to five. As was the rest of the match, that final bout was a game of runs, with Muhlenberg striking first and jumping out to a 10-3 lead. The Rangers, undeterred as they had been throughout the rest of the match, answered right back with a 14-5 run that captured the win for the visitors.
