The Muhlenberg volleyball team opened a home weekend tri-match with a 3-0 sweep of Oswego State.
The match featured a near-historic effort by junior
Ansley Asche, who came within one dig of a triple-double, finishing with a career-high 10 kills, 14 assists, and 9 digs.
The Mules (7-8) hit .280 in their fourth sweep of the season; the 48 kills were the most by the Mules in a three-set match since 2023.
Joining Asche with double figures in kills were sophomore
Andrea Romero-Agosto, who put down 13 in only 23 attempts, and freshman
Lizzie Steinkamp with 10.
Junior
Maddy Budris recorded a career high with 25 assists, and freshman
Natalie Ma played a strong match as Muhlenberg's libero, finishing with a career-high 6 assists and tying her best with 14 digs.
With Romero-Agosto recorded three kills, the Mules jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the opening set and were never challenged by the Lakers (4-7), going on to a 25-12 win.
Muhlenberg was challenged late in the second and third sets but held strong both times.
In the second set, the Oswego cut a 22-17 deficit to 23-22 and was serving to tie the set before a kill by Asche stemmed the tide. A Laker attack error on the next point ended the set.
The third set followed a similar script, with Oswego erasing a five-point hole (17-12) to take a 21-20 lead. A powerful kill by Romero-Agosto, followed by an Oswego error on an attempted setter dump and a putback of an overpass by freshman
Eva Myers, gave the Mules a 23-21 advantage.
The Lakers scored the next point and again served with a chance to tie at 23-22. Again, it was Asche with the kill to give Muhlenberg a set point, and junior
Abigail Oswari polished off the match with her eighth kill off a set by Asche.
