The Muhlenberg College women's soccer team fell 3-0 to conference foe Franklin and Marshall in the Centennial Conference opener Saturday afternoon.
The visiting Diplomats did all their damage during a five-minute stretch in the first half. In the 20th minute, an F&M corner kick led to a header goal and a 1-0 advantage. Under a minute later, the Diplomats scored again to extend their lead further. A long strike in the 25
th minute that sailed into the net capped off F&M's blitz and put the Mules in a 3-0 deficit.
The Mules began to make their presence felt after the halftime stoppage with significantly more possession on the offensive end. Muhlenberg also totaled more corners than F&M in the final 45 minutes, and goalkeeper
Megan Stairs stopped all four of the opposition's shots on net.
Those were four of her 13 saves in the contest, by far a season high and one more than her previous season total (12) over the first five matches. It also marks the 11th time Stairs has stopped 10 or more shots in a match during her career.
