A penalty kick in the 30th minute was the difference, as the Muhlenberg Mules fell to the visiting Susquehanna River Hawks 1-0 on Wednesday evening.
It was a defensive struggle throughout, and despite Susquehanna having an advantage in possession in the first half, the visitors were able to muster up very few chances against Muhlenberg's defense. Their best chance of the game outside of the penalty came at the 28-minute mark of the first half when a wayward clear attempt ended up in the River Hawks' possession inside of the 18. A few minutes later, an unfortunate fall by a Muhlenberg defender upended a Susquehanna player inside of the box, resulting in that aforementioned penalty try. The visitors converted off of that opportunity, which proved to be the difference in the Mules' first loss of the season.
Stairs' six saves represent a season-high for the senior goalkeeper and match her season total coming into tonight's match. With her final stop of the night, she became the eighth player in program history to make 200 saves in a career.
