The Muhlenberg baseball team scored seven runs in the first two innings but could not hold on to its lead and fell at Swarthmore, 14-10.
The Mules (9-18, 4-7) scored three in the first on an RBI single by sophomore
Jason Hughes, a wild pitch and a double play. After the Garnet (20-11, 5-6) plated four runs in the bottom of the inning, Muhlenberg scored four runs without the benefit of a hit - combining six walks and a hit batter - in the second.
Swarthmore, which is receiving votes in the American Baseball Coaches Association Division III poll, came back to take the lead in the fifth inning.
Sophomore
Mike Carcich, who earlier in the day was named Centennial Conference player of the week, hit his third home run in two games to make it 10-8 in the sixth.
After the Garnet extended its lead to 12-8, Muhlenberg brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the eighth. Junior
Spencer Hobson hit a two-run single to make it 12-10, but the inning ended with two runners on base.
Carcich, Hobson, and sophomore Steven Diomvski each had two hits for the Mules, who reached double figures in runs for the 11th time this season.
