Carcich, Clark Earn Weekly Honors on the Diamond

Muhlenberg baseball first baseman Mike Carcich and Muhlenberg softball pitcher Eden Clark have been named Centennial Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively.

Carcich raked all week, tallying a .500 batting average, a 1.703 OPS, four runs scored, and six RBIs as part of a 3-1 week for the Mules. The sophomore played an important role in all three wins, beginning with a clutch single against Haverford on April 7. With the Mules trailing 9-7 in the eighth, he knocked an 0-2 pitch into right field; the teammate who pinch-ran for him wound up scoring the go-ahead run in a 10-9 victory.

Three days later, during the second game of a doubleheader against Washington College, he belted the first two home runs of his career. His homer in the first inning was a three-run shot that turned a 1-0 deficit into a 3-1 lead. In the first game, he walked and scored in Muhlenberg's six-run game-tying rally in the eighth, then brought in the winning run in the ninth when he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Clark has helped the suddenly red-hot softball team win five straight and seven of its last eight games over the past few weeks with her work in the circle. On the whole, Clark went 3-0 with a 0.44 ERA in three starts this week, striking out 15 batters in 16 innings. After the Mules lost the opening game of the doubleheader with Franklin & Marshall on April 7, she pitched six shutout innings in the nightcap, allowing only two hits and fanning seven.

Two days later, on April 9, Clark gave up just one hit in a four-inning scoreless stint against Elizabethtown and tossed six innings of one-run ball vs. Washington College. For the week, she surrendered eight hits–all singles–in her three starts, while holding opponents to a .148 batting average.

It is the first time that either Carcich or Clark has taken home a weekly conference honor. It's the fifth time that a member of the Muhlenberg softball team has done that this season; Clark joins Morgan Bobrowski (thrice) and Sofia Gallahue (once) in that category.
