The Muhlenberg baseball team allowed multiple runs in each of the last three innings and lost at Concordia, 12-5, in its first game in Texas.
The Tornados (10-5) entered the game receiving 23 votes - seven spots outside the top 25 - in the D3baseball.com poll. They won 35 games last year and have won a game in the NCAA Tournament each of the last two seasons.Â
The Mules (1-4) came back twice, however, once to tie at 2-2 and the second time to take a 5-3 lead in the top of the sixth.
In the sixth, a pinch-hit single by sophomore
Joe Zito set up the three-run rally. Sophomore
Sean Habeeb tied the game with a single, sophomore
Thomas Rorick put Muhlenberg ahead with a sacrifice fly, and junior
Spencer Hobson singled in the third run.
Concordia scored twice in the sixth to tie, twice in the seventh to take the lead, and five times in the eighth.Â
A pair of double-double innings got the Mules their first two runs. In the second, sophomore
Salvatore Cifalino led off with a double and was doubled in by sophomore
Marius Haughton, and in the fourth, freshman
Emmy Bulis doubled for his first career hit and came around on a two-bagger by senior
Mason Mehling.
Sophomore
Kieran Mulholland (pictured above) pitched well in his first start of the season, allowing only four hits and one earned run while striking out four in five innings.
