The Muhlenberg baseball team was valiant in defeat in a 5-1 loss at ninth-ranked Trinity.
The Mules (1-5) outhit the Tigers (7-5), who were ranked first in Division III in last week's D3baseball.com poll, and were within one or two runs until the bottom of the eighth inning.
Sophomore
Shane Ohl, Muhlenberg's starting pitcher, gave up a leadoff home run, but settled down and allowed only one more run while pitching into the fourth. Freshman
Zack Silberstein pitched a scoreless inning and a third, and junior
Ryan Schultz worked two scoreless innings, striking out the last two batters he faced with a runner on third.Â
The Mules cut a 2-0 deficit in half in the seventh on a two-out RBI single by junior
Spencer Hobson but managed only one baserunner the rest of the way.
Hobson (pictured above) went 3-for-4 and threw out a runner attempting to steal to end the third inning. Sophomore
Marius Haughton had a pair of singles.
