Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Blistering Start Not Enough For Women's Basketball

The Muhlenberg Mules led for much of the way but fell 56-49 in the final minutes to the Gettysburg Bullets in Centennial Conference action.

The Mules made five of their first seven shots from the field, including a 4-of-6 mark from beyond the arc, to jump out to a commanding 18-0 lead just over five minutes into the game. In addition to the barrage from deep, Muhlenberg had the high-low game between Veronica Dawson and Lyndsey Costigan working in the first half. The former totaled 10 of the Mules' 18 points during that five minute stretch and went on to finish with a game-high 18 points.

The Bullets made inroads into that deficit over the course of the game, eventually drawing even with the Mules midway through the fourth quarter. From there, Muhlenberg's free throw shooting kept the hosts in the game until the final minute.

Avery McNulty finished second on the Mules in scoring with eight points to go with three steals and a block.

Prior to the game, Sophomore Caitlyn D'Addieco received the Aril Bryant Award for "service beyond self." D'Addieco is a Berg EMT volunteer and spends numerous hours on call responding to medical calls and emergencies on campus. The sophomore has been president of the Best Buddies program, volunteers with Just Play Sports, and has also acted as assistant coach for the Katy Wolfpack, a Special Olympics team near her home in Katy, Texas.

The annual award is given in memory of the former Mule point guard who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009 and devoted considerable time and energy to supporting others with the disease and their families before passing away at age 30 in 2013.
