A season high in goals made for a memorable Senior Night for the Muhlenberg field hockey team.
The Mules (4-8) scored in three of the four quarters en route to their second win in their last three games, 4-1 against St. Francis.
Prior to the game, Muhlenberg honored their six seniors,
Maddie Schwartz,
Rachel Hager,
MJ Callahan,
Madison Horvath,
Maya Schlegel, and
Reece Montano (pictured left to right above).
It was a junior who stole the show, however, as
Jocelyn Morgan scored the last three Muhlenberg goals for her second hat trick of the season. Morgan scored off a pass from junior
Danielle Kapsak with 33 seconds left in the first quarter, finished a feed from junior
Kate Lysaght on a penalty corner with 57 seconds left in the second quarter, and completed her hat trick with a great individual effort early in the fourth quarter.
Morgan, who scored all three goals in a 3-2 win against Moravian earlier in the season, is the first Mule to record two hat tricks in a season since Kristen Bruschi in 2004. The transfer is also the first Muhlenberg player to reach double digits in goals in her first season with the program since 2011.
Freshman
Madi Davis opened the scoring with her first career goal, off a pass from Schlegel, midway through the first quarter.
Montano made a defensive save to preserve the shutout late in the third quarter, but the Red Wolves (1-7), who are transitioning from Division I to Division III, spoiled it off a penalty corner with 7:06 remaining.
