The Muhlenberg field hockey team took advantage of a misplay to score the lone goal and pick up its first Centennial Conference win of the season, 1-0 against Washington College.
The Shorewomen (2-8, 0-3) had possession of the ball in their end early in the second quarter and attempted a back pass. The ball split between their two deepest backs, however, and rolled back towards their goal. Junior
Jocelyn Morgan sped past the other players, ran onto the ball, and beat the Washington goalie one-on-one
(pictured above) for her sixth goal of the season.
Morgan had another breakaway opportunity later in the quarter after taking a through ball from freshman
Madi Davis, but the Washington goalie forced a tougher shot that went just wide.
The Mules (3-7, 1-2) dominated play for most of the game, rolling up a 14-2 advantage in shots. Sophomore
Brenna Fitzpatrick stopped one of them to earn her second career shutout.
Nine of the last 10 meetings between Muhlenberg and Washington have been decided by a single goal.
