The Muhlenberg men's wrestling team opened up its Centennial Conference dual schedule with a 26-18 loss at 23rd-ranked McDaniel in a match that came down to the final bout.
The Mules trailed 18-5 halfway through the match but started their comeback with a major decision by junior
Tyson Derenberger at 165. After a scoreless first period, Derenberger
(pictured above) took his opponent down late in the second period and twice in the final 30 seconds of the third period.
After a McDaniel technical fall, junior
Nick Stump recorded the fastest pin of his career, flattening his opponent in just 45Â seconds to make the score 23-15. It was his team-leading ninth pin of the season and improved his record at 184 to a perfect 6-0 this season.
Senior
Ryan Fairchild followed with an 11-4 decision to bring the Mules to within 23-18. They need a pin in the final bout to pull out the win, but the Green Terror clinched the match with a 9-2 decision.
Junior
CJ Horvath began the night with a technical fall at 125, building a 21-5 lead early in third period. With seven techs on the season, Horvath is within one of the school record he set last year.
