The Muhlenberg men's basketball team fell behind early to a hot-shooting Ursinus team and could never catch up, falling 87-72.
The Bears (10-6, 3-1) made seven of their first 10 three-point attempts to open up a 32-17 lead late in the first half. The advantage swelled to 21 points, 47-26, by halftime.
The Mules (9-7, 2-2) spent the entire second half playing catch-up, and although they made some inroads, they were never able to seriously threaten Ursinus.Â
A layup by
Arinze Achufusi with 5:51 left got the lead down to 10, and junior
Elias Sherman-Murphy finally put Muhlenberg within single digits on his layup with 1:47 left. The Bears put the game away at the line, however, sending the Mules to their first home loss since the opening day of the season.
Sophomore
Jack Woodard led four Muhlenberg players in double figures with 17 points, one off his career high. Sherman-Murphy added 15 and Achufusi
(pictured above) 14, while junior
Peter Stanton-Shepherd, the reigning Centennial Conference player of the week, finished with 13 points, including three straight baskets early in the second half.
