The Muhlenberg men's soccer team scored twice in the second half to come back and defeat Lebanon Valley, 2-1, for its first win of the season.
It was the first time the Mules (1-0-1) came back from a second-half deficit to win in regulation since 2017.
The Dutchmen (1-1) took a 1-0 lead by putting in a free kick early in the second half, but Muhlenberg responded a little more than three minutes later off a long throw by junior
Sam Roberts. Sophomore
Thomas Shreiber flicked the ball in the box to senior
Elie Khalil, who put it away at the far post for his sixth career goal.
The winning play came in the final seven minutes and start with a nice move and long pass by sophomore
Saleem Diakite. Freshman
Daniel Ariza collected the ball outside the box, and his attempted cross banged off a Lebanon Valley back. But Ariza got the ball right back, dribbled into the box, drew the goalie out, and passed to senior
Omar Lopez, who knocked into the open net. It was the second career goal for Lopez
(pictured above).
Lebanon Valley had a 12-7 advantage in shots, but senior
Ben Mulford made six saves to earn the win, including a tough one off a free kick in the first 90 seconds of the game and another in the final minute to preserve the lead.
