Volleyball Splits in New York

The Muhlenberg volleyball team split its final two non-conference matches of the season, sweeping SUNY Cobleskill in three sets before falling to host Cortland in four.

The match against Cobleskill featured two sets that were close and one that was not. The Mules (8-10) trailed 15-12 in the opening set before running off seven straight points with junior Chloe Gaglione serving. They held on the rest of the set, winning 25-22.

In the second set, Muhlenberg faced a 23-17 deficit before ending on a 9-1 run to take a 2-0 lead. Down 24-22, the Mules staved off one set point on a Cobleskill attack error and a second on a service ace by sophomore Ansley Asche

Asche served another ace to put Muhlenberg ahead 25-24, then finished off the set with one of her career-high 6 kills.

The Mules broke a 5-5 tie in the third set with a 9-0 run behind the serving of sophomore Abigail Oswari. After an Oswari ace, sophomore Maddy Budris assisted on five consecutive kills - two by junior Kelliann Keogh and one each by Oswari, Asche, and junior Natalia Agnolet

Gaglione (pictured above) enjoyed another long service run as Muhlenberg 18-8 scored the final seven points to finish off the match with its most one-sided set of the season, 25-8. Sophomore Olivia Bruno recorded a kill on match point.

Oswari finished with 11 kills and 14 digs for her second straight double-double. Senior Camila Leyes recorded 13 digs and a career-high 6 assists, while sophomore Kelly Stephen contributed 3 kills on only four attempts in the third set.

Muhlenberg took the momentum into the Cortland match, coming back late to take the first set. A 6-0 run that included back-to-back aces by Oswari turned a 20-18 deficit into a 24-20 lead, and Bruno finished off the set at 25-22 with a kill.

The Red Dragons, who have played in the NCAA Tournament each of the last four years, came back to capture the final three sets.

Oswari led the Mules against Cortland with 9 kills and 5 aces - the fourth time this season she's served 5 aces.
