Abigail Oswari led the way with 15 kills, but the Muhlenberg Mules fell to the Swarthmore Garnet 3-1 in a Saturday afternoon Centennial Conference clash.
Muhlenberg's best stretch of play came during the third set. After falling behind 14-11, the Mules ripped off three straight points to even it at 11, including a kill by setter
Jenny Ryan. Swarthmore responded with two points of its own to retake the lead, but the Mules strung four more scores together to take an 18-16 advantage.
Olivia Bruno had a big hand in that stretch, totaling two kills and a block assist (with help from
Natalia Agnolet) on the fourth straight score.
The Garnet would knot it up once more before Oswari took over, ripping off a run of three straight kills as part of a 7-4 run that secured a 25-22 win. The final point of that set was a
Christina Marcin kill that ignited the alumni-laden crowd.
It's the second most kills in a match for Oswari this season, behind only her 17-kill day at Moravian on September 3. The sophomore only made four errors to finish with a pristine .314 hitting percentage. Marcin finished second on the team in kills with 10.
Jenny Ryan and
Maddy Budris finished in a tie for the top spot in assists with 17 assists, and four Mules had 10 or more digs (Oswari, Budris, Ryan, and Marcin).
