The Muhlenberg Mules traveled across Pennsylvania to take on No. 22 Carnegie Mellon and a pair of other squads in non-conference action.
Christina Marcin totaled 30 kills and
Jenny Ryan had 39 assists, but the Mules were swept in all three matches.
They were greeted by a William Peace team that could be in the conversation to be nationally ranked after sweeping nine straight sets over the weekend, including three over the Tartans. One of the bright spots in Muhlenberg's match with the Herons was the frontline defense; the Mules had three total blocks, and five players recorded a block assist.
Abigail Oswari and
Andrea Romero-Agosto shone for the Mules, with the former totaling six kills to just one error and the latter having four kills, two blocks, and one ace.
Muhlenberg put up a much more impressive performance against the hosts a few hours later. Marcin led the way with a game-high 15 kills and one block, accounting for nearly half of her team's putaways.
Kelliann Keogh and Romero-Agosto each added a pair of blocks, and Oswari chipped in two service aces and six kills as well. On the scoreboard, the Mules kept pace with the Tartans throughout the first and third sets and even took a 23-22 lead in the final bout. It was a pair of Marcin kills that handed them that advantage, but a service error, a block, and a kill secured the Carnegie Mellon victory.
Muhlenberg gave John Carroll a good run in its next match as well. A long Blue Streak streak won John Carroll the first set, but the Mules fought valiantly in the next two, falling 25-20 and 25-23. The Mules were led statistically by Marcin with 11 kills,
Camila Leyes with 14 digs, and Ryan with 15 assists. Despite the loss, Muhlenberg posted a season high seven total blocks, two more than its previous best.
Olivia Bruno set a career-high with six total blocks, the most in a single match by a Mule since October 9, 2024, when
Brooke Shiver and
Rachel Jacobs both had six against Ursinus. Keogh and Oswari added three denials apiece in this match.
The Mules fall to 1-4 in neutral site games this season compared to a 4-2 mark at home.
