Diglio, DiSandro Stay Hot in Shutout of Montclair State

Senior captains Abba Diglio and Erin DiSandro each scored, and Maddie Schwartz pitched a shutout as the Muhlenberg Mules defeated the Montclair State Red Hawks 2-0 to move above .500 on the season.

DiSandro got the scoring started 6:28 into the contest courtesy of none other than Diglio. The latter drove hard at the net from the right side, circled back, and found her teammate five yards out from the net. DiSandro took the pass and flicked a shot up and around her defender, past the goalie, and perfectly into the upper right-hand corner of the goal.

11 minutes of gameplay later and Diglio doubled that advantage courtesy of Maya Schlegel. In a similar manner, Schlegel sent a centering pass to Diglio, who snuck a shot around the defense and into the net.  That gave that pair scores for the third straight game and the sixth time in seven total games this year.

Much of the first half was played in the Mules' offensive end, but the Red Hawks went on the offensive over the final 30 minutes. Muhlenberg netminder Schwartz turned them away every time, including a save on a high shot much like DiSandro's that sparked raucous cheers from the home fans and bench.  The shutout was her first of the season and the seventh of her career.

Diglio and DiSandro continue to march up the program's all-time leaderboards. With three points today, Diglio moves into fourth all-time with 90 career points, passing Ruth Smith, who had 88 from 1959-62. She's now tied for fifth in program history in career goals and career assists with 37 and 16, respectively. DiSandro moves into a tie for eighth in Muhlenberg history with 31 goals.

The win also snapped Muhlenberg's six-game losing streak in the all-time series against Montclair State; it's the first time the Mules have come out on top since a 1-0 win at Montclair on October 14, 2015. For the last home win over the Red Hawks, one must go back to 2014.
