Khalil Scores Twice as Mules Rout Bulldogs

Two Mules tallied their first point and three more made their collegiate debut as Muhlenberg defeated the visiting DeSales Bulldogs 3-0 Wednesday evening.

Elie Khalil got the hosts on the board just prior to halftime with some hard work. After a mostly quiet first 37 minutes all around, the senior's launched a shot at the net which was blocked out in front by a defender. Unfazed, Khalil got his own rebound from a defender a few moments later and scored with a left-footed shot.

That was just the appetizer for the Mules' offense, as a beautiful play off a corner kick would extend that advantage to two just two minutes into the second half. Omar Lopez took the corner and passed the ball to a crashing Paul Hartman, who smacked a service into the box. That service found its target, as the six-foot-two Sam Roberts leapt high above the crowd and headed it home for his first goal of the season. That also gave Hartman his first career point with the assist.

Like Hartman, Jack Scuro would snag his first career point with an assist less than 10 minutes later. He claimed the only assist on Khalil's second goal with a well-placed cross into the box that his fellow senior drilled off the crossbar and into the net. That marked the second two-goal game of Khalil's career; he also had a pair in a 3-1 win over Hobart on September 3, 2023. It is also the second straight game in which a Mule has had multiple goals, as the latest Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week, Daniel Ariza, put home two on September 6 against Moravian.

Shortly after that goal, the Bulldogs went to their bench with a full line change. Muhlenberg head coach Sean Topping was able to do the same and sent Samuel Wenger, Alan Villagra, and Luca Passucci out onto the pitch to make their collegiate debuts.

The win keeps up an impressive streak for the Mules; Muhlenberg hasn't lost at home to DeSales since the 2005 season and now owns a 22-6-4 mark against the Bulldogs all-time.
