Abba Diglio and
Erin DiSandro each found the back of the net, but it wasn't enough as the Muhlenberg field hockey team (0-1) fell to the Scranton Royals 3-2 (1-0) in overtime Friday evening.
Diglio's strike came midway through the second quarter and knotted the game at one. She was the beneficiary of a beautiful
Madison Horvath feed from about 25 yards out; Horvath smacked a through pass off of a turnover to a streaking Diglio, who dribbled twice and put the Mules on the board for the first time in 2025. That assist counted as Horvath's first career point.
After a slow first quarter, Muhlenberg was on the offensive for the majority of the game, totaling 12 shots and seven penalty corners to Scranton's six and one, respectively.
It was one of those corners that gave the hosts the lead with 4:54 to go in the third quarter.
Grace Koloras sent a perfect inbounds pass to a waiting DiSandro at the top of the circle, who clubbed it through the defense and into the net.
Muhlenberg's season opener at Scotty Wood Stadium went right down to the wire, as the Royals would battle back to tie it in the fourth before scoring the game winner less than a minute into overtime.
