Muhlenberg athletes are spending the summer of 2025 enjoying fantastic experiences on campus, in their hometowns, and across the country.
Junior football player and track and field runner Isaac Schaffer-Neitz, a computer science major, added hands-on experience in analytics to his grocery cart while interning at Weis Markets.
This summer, I had the opportunity to intern in the Analytics Department at Weis Markets, a major grocery store chain based on the East Coast. During my time there, I gained hands-on experience with business analytics tools, contributed to marketing strategies and product distribution planning for new store locations, and participated in meetings that directly impacted company performance.
I pursued this internship because I wanted to broaden my understanding of the analytics field while also exploring its intersection with business operations. My goal was to make a meaningful contribution to Weis while gaining firsthand insight into what it takes to be an effective analyst.
One of the most rewarding aspects of the internship was working with analytics tools to evaluate store-level demographics and performance. Seeing how data-driven insights can enhance customer experience and profitability was both exciting and fulfilling.
The coursework I've completed at Muhlenberg, particularly in the computer science and statistics departments, gave me a strong foundation for this experience. The guidance of my professors allowed me to confidently navigate the tools and data I encountered, making the transition into this real-world setting much smoother.
This internship has been incredibly valuable in helping me grow not only as a candidate for future roles but also as a well-rounded professional. Being immersed in a collaborative and high-performing environment has shaped my understanding of what it means to succeed in the analytics sphere, and I'm excited to carry these lessons forward into my career.
