Softball Suffers Tough Loss in Playoffs

The Muhlenberg softball dropped to the elimination bracket of the Centennial Conference playoffs when Swarthmore scored four times in the bottom of the seventh for a stunning 6-5 win.

The Mules (21-19) will face Ursinus in an elimination game on Saturday morning, with the winner going on to play the loser of the Swarthmore-Gettysburg game in another elimination game.

Muhlenberg was three outs away from a rousing win against the Garnet (30-9), which is 28th in the Division III NPI rankings. The Mules overcame an early 2-0 deficit by scoring four times with two outs in the top of the fifth.

Freshman Abigail Kim and junior Scooter Hulsen set the table with singles in the fourth. After an error plated one run, back-to-back doubles by sophomores Lillie Teague and Skyla Campisi brought in three more.

Muhlenberg added an insurance run in the top of the seventh after Zack and Teague led off with conseuctive singles. Zack eventually scored on a squeeze bunt by freshman Morgan Bobrowski.

Bobrowski started in the circle and allowed only three hits through the first six innings but was relieved after allowing the first two runners to reach base in the seventh. The next four batters reached to tie the score, and Swarthmore walked it off on a sacrifice fly.
