The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse team overcame an early 5-0 deficit to defeat Washington College, 14-8, for its first Centennial Conference win of the season.
The five-goal comeback tied the biggest in program history: In 2013, the Mules trailed Gettysburg 9-4 in the fourth quarter and came back to win, 10-9 in overtime. But this was the first time Muhlenberg won despite allowing the first five goals of the game.
Sophomore
Liam Ledwith led the Mules (5-7, 1-2) with a career-high 5 goals, while sophomore
Chase Kusko recorded 7 points on 2 goals and 5 assists, moving to within one of the school record of 32 assists in a season.
The Shoremen (6-6, 0-4) netted five goals in the first 11:05, including two nine seconds apart, to put Muhlenberg in a big hole. The comeback began with two goals in the final 35 seconds of the first quarter, one by Ledwith and one by senior
Matthew Hochegger.
Muhlenberg wound up scoring 10 straight goals, keeping Washington off the scoreboard for more than 33 minutes, to take command of the game.
Kusko was involved in five straight goals of the 10, scoring the first two to bring the Mules to within on, then assisting sophomore
Jack Bill on the tying goal late in the first half. Kusko assisted Ledwith 1:15 into the second half to put Muhlenberg up for good, then fed Bill
(pictured above) a second time.
Back-to-back goals by Ledwith and one by sophomore
Ryan Neal capped the 10-0 run.
Junior
Max Kunnath made 10 saves to pick up his first win as a starter this season. Senior
Brendan Lavarra picked up 6 ground balls and forced a pair of turnovers, while senior
Jono Hillelsohn also caused a couple of turnovers to go along with 3 ground balls.
