The Muhlenberg softball team moved closer to a Centennial Conference playoff berth with a 3-1 weekend in Maryland.
The Mules (19-15, 7-5) split a doubleheader on Friday at Washington College, coming back to win the second game, 5-3, before shutting out McDaniel twice on Saturday, 11-0 and 2-0.
With one week remaining in the regular season, Muhlenberg is in third place in the CC.
The doubleheader shutout at McDaniel was the second for the Mules this season, and their first in a CC road twinbill since 2014. Four pitchers combined to hold the Green Terror (14-16-1, 4-8) to 11 hits in the two games. Senior
Justine Bergara tossed a five-hitter in the nightcap for her fourth career shutout, never allowing a runner past second base.
Freshman
Morgan Bobrowski got the start in the opener and earned the win with three scoreless innings. She also provided the offensive highlight of the game when she hit her first career home run in the fourth inning.
Muhlenberg scored at least one run in each of its five turns at bat in a game that was a far cry from the 14-13, 13-inning epic the two teams played in the opening game of last year's doubleheader.Â
Junior
Scooter Hulsen went 3-for-4 with two RBI in the opening game and added a 4-for-4 performance in the nightcap, extending her hitting streak to 13 games. She doubled twice in the second game of both doubleheaders, surpassing the career milestone of 100 hits.Â
A double by graduate student
Gillian Zack with two outs in the seventh inning sent the opening game of the Washington College doubleheader into extra innings tied at 4-4, but the Shorewomen (10-22, 5-7) walked it off in the bottom of the eighth.
Hulsen's two-run double and an RBI single by sophomore
Skyla Campisi gave Muhlenberg a 3-0 lead in the second game before Washington tied the score on a three-run homer.
Bobrowski

Peri Kahn, and came around to score the go-ahead run when a bunt by senior
Kaya Mahy was thrown away. Freshman
Ellie Williams brought in an insurance run with a two-out single.Â
Bergara protected the two-run lead over the final two frames en route to a complete-game win.
