The Muhlenberg men's lacrosse ran away in the fourth quarter to defeat McDaniel, 19-8, and clinch a Centennial Conference playoff berth for the fourth straight season.
The Mules (9-7, 5-2), who have won five in a row, are tied for third place in the CC with one game remaining in the regular season.Â
After scoring as many as 19 goals in a CC game only twice in their first 21 season in the league, the Mules have now done it in back-to-back games, putting in 19 against the Green Terror (4-12, 0-7) three days after setting a school record for a CC game in a 20-12 win against Ursinus.
Sophomore
Liam Ledwith matched his career high with 5 goals, while sophomore
Jack Bill recorded his 12th career hat trick with 4.
But the offensive star of the game was a player who didn't score any goals. Sophomore
Chase Kusko set a school record with 8 assists, breaking the previous mark of 6 that he had tied twice this season. The 8 points were one short of the school record. Kusko became the 12th player in program history to reach the century mark in career points, finishing the game with 103.
Led by Kusko and senior
Nolan DiSora (3 assists), the Mules tied the school record of 15 assists in a game.
Kusko assisted on four goals in Muhlenberg's game-ending 10-0 run. The Mules led only 9-8 with 7:15 to go in the third quarter before blanking McDaniel for the rest of the game, stretching the lead to 11-8 by the end of the quarter before pouring in eight goals in the final period. The eight goals were one short of the school record for a quarter.
Ten different Mule players scored goals in the game, with senior
Spencer Hallagan (pictured above) recording his third career multiple-goal game and freshman
Ben Cohen notching his first career goal.
Senior
Griffin Minuto went 17-for-23 on faceoffs. Senior
Brendan Lavarra picked up a career-high 7 ground balls, and one game after setting a career high with 9, senior
Matthew Hochegger added 7 more ground balls.
