The Muhlenberg softball team dropped its first two Centennial Conference games of the season, falling to Swarthmore 10-0 and 6-4.
Senior
Justine Bergara made history by starting the first game and closing out the second. She has now appeared in 90 career games, breaking the school record of 89 pitching appearances that had stood since 2000.
After being held to four hits in the opening game, the Mules (12-10, 0-2) scored their first run of the day without a hit in the bottom of the first inning of the nightcap.
The Garnet (15-7, 2-0) responded with two in the top of the second, but Muhlenberg tied it on a double by sophomore
Skyla Campisi in the fourth.
Swarthmore went ahead for good with four in the top of the fifth. Two more run-scoring doubles, by junior
Scooter Hulsen and freshman
Morgan Bobrowski, in the bottom of the fifth brought Muhlenberg to within two.Â
The Mules put the tying runs on base in the bottom of the seventh but could not push them across.Â
