Two sixth-inning rallies lifted the Muhlenberg softball team to a doubleheader sweep at Dickinson.
The Mules (14-10, 2-2) scored all of their runs in the sixth in the opener, winning 6-3, and scored twice in the sixth in the nightcap to pull out a 5-3 victory.
Muhlenberg was shut out on four hits through the first five innings of the first game and trailed 3-0 when it came to bat in the sixth. After sophomore
Skyla Campisi brought in the first run with a double, sophomore
Lillie Teague singled in a second run, and senior
Dani Roban squeezed in the tying run.
Two batters later, junior
Scooter Hulsen broke the tie with a two-run double. She scored the sixth run on an infield error.
Sophomore
Samantha Fehrenbach earned the win with three shutout innings in relief. Campisi went 3-for-4.
The second game was tied 3-3 when the Mules came up in the sixth. With two outs, senior
Kaya Mahy doubled, and junior pinch-runner
Sophia Jacobson came all the way around from first to score the go-ahead run. Hulsen brought in Mahy with a single, her third hit of the game.
Senior
Justine Bergara pitched a complete-game five-hitter to earn the win. She retired the first nine batters before the Red Devils (12-12, 1-3) plated three runs in the fourth. Bergara
(pictured above) finished the way she started, tossing three more scoreless innings to finish off the sweep.Â
