Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Swept at New Jersey City

The Muhlenberg baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at New Jersey City, 5-4 in the first game and 9-4 in the second game.

Graduate student Jack Kent went 4-for-9 with 4 RBI in the two games, reacing the 100-hit mark for his career with an RBI single in the nightcap.

Kent's third home run of the season gave the Mules (9-9) a 1-0 lead in the third inning of the opener. Sophomore Luke Foley did not allow a hit in the first four innings, striking out six of the first 13 hitters he faced, but the Gothic Knights (9-4-1) reached him for two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Trailing 5-3, Muhlenberg put the potential tying runs into scoring position in the top of the ninth but could only push one across.

In addition to Kent, senior Brendan Bussiere and freshman Thomas Rorick had a pair of hits in the first game.

The nightcap featured six home runs, all to the gap in right-center with a strong wind blowing out. New Jersey City hit five of the home runs to account for seven of its nine runs.

Senior Brendan Hughes hit the lone round-tripper for the Mules, the ninth of his career, becoming the first Muhlenberg starting pitcher to belt a home run since 2001.

Senior Aidan Legner, pictured above tagging out a runner attempting to steal, went 3-for-4 in the second game.
