A second-place finish by junior CJ Horvath highlighted the Petrofes Invitational for the Muhlenberg men's wrestling team.

The Mules finished in eighth place and had four other placewinners in addition to Horvath: junior Andrew Loniewski (sixth at 141), freshman Eoghan O'Hara (eighth at 149), sophomore Lucas Velando (sixth at 174) and junior Nick Stump (eighth at 174).

Horvath, who came in ranked fourth in Region 3, did not allow a point in winning his first two bouts by major decision. In the semifinals, he faced an NYU wrestler who was ranked third in the region and 14th in Division III. Horvath trailed his opponent 4-0 late in the third period before escaping and taking his opponent down with less than 20 seconds left for a four-point near-fall that was the difference in an 8-5 win.

Horvath was on the wrong side of a dramatic finish in the final, against the 13th-ranked 125-pounder in Division III. Horvath recorded a takedown in the first minute of the bout but did not score any more points and was taken down in the closing seconds for a 5-3 loss.

Muhlenberg's other three placewinners all went 3-3, with Loniewski notching two technical falls and a major decision, O'Hara pinning two of his opponents and suffering losses to one nationally ranked and one regionally ranked opponent, Velando scoring a last-minute takedown to win his first bout, and Stump winning one of his bouts by technical fall.

Sophomore Noah Schlofer went 3-2 at 174, while senior Logan Hurwitt (157) and juniors Tyson Derenberger (165) and Ben Krauss all split four bouts.

Huwitt (pictured above) had one of the most dramatic comebacks of the tournament. He trailed a Messiah wrestler 11-1 at one point and 12-5 at the start of the third period but took him down three times in the last 70 seconds for a 15-14 decision. Schlofer came back from a 7-0 deficit against a Gettysburg opponent, taking him down twice in the third period and again nine seconds into overtime for a sudden victory.
