Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball Opens Season with Epic

If the opening game was any indication, the Muhlenberg men's basketball team is in for plenty of excitement during the 2025-26 season.

The Mules dropped their opener, 96-93 to Moravian in double overtime, in a nail-biting game in which neither team led by more than six points after halftime.

It was the first multiple-overtime game for the Mules since a triple-overtime thriller against Ursinus in 2017, and the first time they opened they season with an overtime game since 1939-40 - 86 years ago.

The Greyhounds, who return the top three scorers from a team that won 16 games last season, forced overtime by making a three-pointer with 6.7 seconds left in regulation.

Muhlenberg, with two of its most experienced players forced to sit out with injuries, appeared to have the game won at the end of the first overtime. The scoreboard showed the Mules with an 85-83 lead and no time remaining, but after video review the referees added eight-tenths of a second to the clock and awarded Moravian possession under the basket. A buzzer-beating layup send the game into a second extra period.

The Mules led 93-90 with less than two minutes left in the second overtime but did not score again. Moravian netted the final six points and survived a last-second three-point attempt by Muhlenberg to escape with the win.

Six Mule players scored in double figures, led by junior Peter Stanton-Shepherd with a career-high 23 points. He also pulled down 9 rebounds.

Also netting career highs were sophomore Drew Buck (15 points) and sophomore Jack Woodard (10). Buck was 7-of-10 from the field, missing only three-pointers, and added 6 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals. Woodard (pictured above) contributed 7 rebounds and 4 assists in his first career start.

Senior Drew Greene finished with 13 points, one short of his career high, and tied his career high of 6 assists without committing a turnover.

Juniors Liam Gorman and Elias Sherman-Murphy scored 11 points apiece. Senior Matt Lee made his first career start, scoring 5 points.
