The Muhlenberg men's basketball team shook off a slow start to pull away in the second half and score its first win of the season, 58-45 at Penn College.
Junior
Peter Stanton-Shepherd recorded his second career double-double, finishing with 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds to go along with 4 assists and a pair of blocks. Sophomore
Jack Woodard set a career high for the second game in a row, scoring 11 points, while junior
Liam Gorman also netted 11, and sophomore
Drew Buck added 10.
The Mules (1-1) scored only 10 points in the first 15 minutes of the game and trailed 14-10 before a three-pointer by Buck and a layup by senior
Drew Greene off a beautiful pass from Woodard started a 9-0 run. A three-pointer by Stanton-Shepherd in the closing seconds sent Muhlenberg into halftime with a 22-17 edge.
After shooting just 21.9 percent in the first half, the Mules made field goals at a 45.5-percent clip in the second half.
Another three by Stanton-Shepherd gave Muhlenberg its first double-digit lead at 37-26. After the Wildcats (0-3) scored the next four points, the Mules put the game away with a 12-0 run that started with a layup by sophomore
Brendan Luddy and included threes by Woodard and Gorman
