Resilient Mules Ground Eagles

The Muhlenberg Mules shook off a slow start to defeat the Eastern Eagles by a score of 59-39 Thursday evening.

Junior Lyndsey Costigan was a massive part of a dominant 21-5 fourth-quarter run for the visitors, racking up 11 points and seven rebounds in the final period alone. The forward would finish with 15 points and 14 rebounds, both of which led the team. It's her first double-double of the season and the second of her career.

That run during the final period came opposite of a 21-6 Eastern run to open up the game. That initial stretch spanned the first 12+ minutes and put Muhlenberg in an early hole. Despite that, the Mules responded with a 15-0 run of their own to tie the game back up heading into halftime. Key to that was a pair of threes by guards Katie McGrath and Linzy Roberson.

Some stout defensive play also aided Muhlenberg's victory; five players finished with multiple steals including McGrath, who paced her team with four. Senior Mia Fitzgerald was also a menace on that end of the floor, racking up a pair of thefts and three blocks. Those three blocks matched a career high set on February 10, 2024 against McDaniel, and were her first three swats of the 2025-26 season. In fact, Fitzgerald has 14 blocks in 63 games during her four-year collegiate career and almost half (six) of them have come in just two contests.

The Mules held the Eagles to just 2-for-15 (13.3%) from the field while shooting 52.9% themselves during that decisive fourth quarter stretch. For the game, Muhlenberg kept Eastern to 25% on field goals and turned the hosts over 21 times.
