The Muhlenberg men's soccer team scored once in each half, remaining undefeated with a 2-0 shutout at Ursinus.
The Mules (6-0-5, 3-0-1) stayed in a tie for first place with nationally ranked Dickinson and extended their unbeaten streak to start the season to 11 games. In the last 30 years, only the 2010 squad (9-0-6) kept a zero in the loss column later into the season.
Muhlenberg is undefeated through four Centennial Conference games for the third consecutive season.
Both Mule goals came off throwins.
In the first half, a long throw by junior
Sam Roberts was headed in the box by sophomore
Owen Zoeller to senior
Trevor Mikuta, who one-timed in with his left foot into the back of the net. The assist was the team-leading fourth of the season for Roberts, while the goal for Mikuta
(pictured above) was the sixth in his career, good for second among active Mule players.
Muhlenberg's active leader in goals, senior
Elie Khalil, provided the insurance with 5:54 remaining on a breakaway that started with an Ursinus throw. With the Bears pushed up looking for an equalizer, a clear off the throw by junior
Danny Patruno made its way back towards midfield and the lone defender back. Khalil jumped to block his pass, collected the ball around midfield and dribbled in 35 yards before beating the goalie for his ninth career goal.
Senior
Ben Mulford stopped four shots in recording his 23rd career shutout.
