Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Notches First Conference Win

Two fourth-quarter goals were the difference as the Muhlenberg field hockey team came back from a long trip to Washington College with a 3-2 win, its first in Centennial Conference play this season.

Each team scored late in the second quarter, with junior Haley Foster converting off a penalty corner for the Mules (5-5, 1-2), and the score remained 1-1 until midway through the fourth quarter.

The Shorewomen (4-7, 1-2) had numerous chances to break the deadlock, but junior Maddie Schwartz made a career-high 13 saves, including 11 in the second half. Washington had four penalty corners and took six shots in a span of a little more than two minutes early in the final period, but Schwartz and the Mule defense stood tall.

Muhlenberg finally went ahead with 7:54 remaining on its first penalty corner of the fourth quarter. Senior Erin DiSandro outfought a Washington player to win the ball on a pass from the wing by senior Lily Botta, dribbled into space and fired a shot into the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season.

A little more than two minutes later, senior Molly Woodward deflected an attempted pass by the Shorewomen in their own end, starting a sequence of fine passing that ended with senior Abba Diglio making a pass in front of the goal to sophomore Grace Koloras, who knocked it in to put the Mules up by two. It was the first career goal for Koloras (pictured above).

Washington drew to within a goal with 4:35 remaining, but Muhlenberg did not permit a shot the rest of the game.

Diglio's two assists gave her 94 career points, just one short of third place on the Mules' all-time list.
