Diglio, DiSandro Dominate on Euphoric Senior Night

Abba Diglio and Erin DiSandro connected on four goals on a jubilant Senior Night as the Muhlenberg Mules shutout the visiting McDaniel Green Terror by a score of 5-0.

The scoring barrage started at the end of the first quarter, when DiSandro and Diglio linked up for the first time. DiSandro passed it into the circle to a waiting Diglio, who fired it up over the goalie's pad for the 1-0 advantage. The second score was a combination of impressive efforts by the Mules' senior pair. DiSandro first snagged a takeaway around the 25-yard line and dribbled up the field before passing to her streaking teammate. Diglio received the pass, dribbled the ball all the way until she was right next to the left post and shot it into the far half of the net.

That gave the Whippany, N.J. native her 101st career point. Diglio is just the third in program history to reach the 100-point mark, but she had eyes for much more. The senior's hat-trick came a little bit later in the second quarter, when a high shot by DiSandro deflected off of the raised stick of Diglio and into the net. That point gave Diglio 103 for her career, and moved her past Kayleigh Thies for second on the program's all-time list.

With nearly 100 career goals on the field for the Mules at this time, of course it was fellow senior Molly Woodward who would next help Diglio with her charge up the record books. Woodward, a midfielder, had never had a shot, let alone a goal in her 22 games prior to this one. The play was started by none other than DiSandro, who passed a bouncing ball to Diglio in the slot. The recipient couldn't corral it, but the ball took a fortunate bounce to Woodward, who smacked it home for career goal number one.

Diglio and DiSandro capped off the win with a score with five minutes remaining to extend the lead to 5-0. It's the biggest Centennial Conference victory for Muhlenberg since an 8-0 defeat of Bryn Mawr on October 5, 2016.

The nine points Diglio totaled is the most by a player in a Centennial Conference game since Haverford's Jen DiMaria had 11 against Swarthmore on November 1, 2014. Her four goals are the most by a Mule since 1995, and she's the first one to be involved in five goals since Emily Boyle had two goals and three assists in a 9-0 rout of Moravian on October 26, 2016.

DiSandro also set a school record with her four assists, breaking the school record of three, which had been accomplished four times. She moves into fifth in program history with 93 career points as well. The pair have now become the second and third players in program history to score 20 goals and notch 20 assists in a career.

Freshman goaltender Brenna Fitzpatrick got the start in net and was perfect when called upon, making six saves on six opportunities to secure her first career win and shutout.

Fittingly, the Mules celebrated their Senior Night pregame. Diglio, DiSandro, Woodward, Greta Marchildon, and Lily Botta were all honored for their time at Muhlenberg.
