Despite a milestone for a senior, the Muhlenberg field hockey team fell at Ursinus in its next-to-last game of the 2025 season.
The Mules (6-11, 2-7) needed a win to stay alive for a Centennial Conference playoff berth and were tied 1-1 after senior
Lily Botta scored a goal off a penalty corner early in the second quarter. After the insertion from senior
Erin DiSandro, Botta's shot from the wing deflected off an Ursinus stick and high into the air. When it came down, it short-hopped off the foot of the goalie and into the back of the net. It was the first career goal for Botta.
The Bears (8-8, 4-5), who have been ranked as high as No. 11 in Division III this season, went ahead for good with 5:26 left in the first half.
Muhlenberg came out on fire in the second half, taking four shots and earning two penalty corners in the first 90 seconds, but Ursinus scored the next goal to go up 3-1. The Mules were turned away on another flurry of shots later in the quarter, and the Bears scored three more goals to pull away.
