The Muhlenberg field hockey team fought throughout but eventually fell to No. 18 Franklin & Marshall 4-2 on a blustery fall evening.
The Diplomats threatened to make it a blowout early on by scoring two goals in the first seven minutes.
Erin DiSandro stopped the visitor run with a goal off a penalty corner in response.
Haley Foster inserted the ball to the Mules' captain, who rifled a shot that glanced off the netminder and into the back of the cage. It was her eighth goal of the season, tying
Abba Diglio (

F&M would add another tally before the first quarter was up, putting the score at 3-1 entering period number two. Sophomore
Danielle Kapsak was the next to strike for the Mules, taking a feed from Diglio to nab her second score of the season. For Diglio, the assist inches her ever closer to the illustrious 100-point plateau. She now has 95 career points, tying her with Linda Meiser for third most in program history. If she were to reach 100 before seasons end, she would become just the third player in Muhlenberg history to do so.
Despite the final score, Muhlenberg goaltender
Maddie Schwartz had a strong night in net. Over the final three quarters, she made eight saves on nine shots. None were more spectacular than her diving stop midway through the third period, which kept the deficit at one.
