The Muhlenberg volleyball team headed to Maryland to take on Washington College in a Centennial Conference matchup Saturday afternoon. The Mules claimed set two convincingly, but the Shorewomen won the match 3-1.
Runs of 6-0 and 5-0 were the driving forces behind Muhlenberg's lone set victory. The Mules went on the attack early to go up 10-8 before winning the next six points in a row.
Ansley Asche (
pictured above), who would finish the match with a team- and career-high 22 assists, contributed from behind the service line with an ace to spur a Shorewomen timeout at 16-9. That stoppage didn't stop the visitors, who promptly won the next point on a kill by
Andrea Romero-Agosto to extend their lead to eight. The next run of five consecutive scores came a few points later and put the Mules up 22-13 to essentially seal the deal en route to a 25-17 final.
Romero-Agosto contributed in virtually every phase of the game to continue a strong stretch for the freshman. She totaled more than seven kills, two aces, a dig, and a block for the third straight contest. She also tallied those seven finishes on a hitting percentage of .222 to notch a fifth consecutive match of hitting that mark or better.
Christina Marcin paced both teams with 14 kills to continue a recent hot stretch of her own; the senior hitter's averaging over 12 kills per game over the last six matches and has reached double figures in five of those six contests.
Natalia Agnolet not only set a career high with four total blocks, but doubled her previous best of two that she'd reached 10 separate times coming into this match.Â
